Glamcult #142 — The ANIMA Issue
Art Direction & Graphic Design2025

I got the chance to develop the art direction and graphic design for this season’s Glamcult #142 issue, titled ANIMA. This includes a reworked Neue Haas Grotesk typeface, which contrasts the strict nature of the font with hand-drawn elements that reflect the contrast between carnality and armour in this issue’s theme. This is utilised in all of the title pages, as well as the underlining in the body texts of this issue.

Breaking Bad Habits
Art Direction, Graphic Design, Photography
& Workshop
2023

Breaking Bad Habits is a workshop with the purpose of trying to hinder the negative aspects of glow-up culture today. Each participant brought a personal object that they broke and implemented in the final sculpture, as well as a written prompt of their personal struggles and challenges. The process of breaking and forming a sculpture using these objects represents a transformative journey, symbolizing the transition from a state of vulnerability and brokenness to a collective creation that embodies resilience, unity, and beauty. This whole transformation was photographically documented and turned into small publications. The outside includes the symbolic transformation of each person’s object, while hidden underneath are their written personal struggles, in order to serve as mementos of strength.

Outer/Under
Art Direction & Graphic Design
2023

Outer/Under is a fictional fashion magazine about intimacy. The publication is divided into two sections: Outer and Under. The Outer section is about our connection to underwear and the Under one deals with our perception of nudity and intimacy. The magazine utilises a Japanese folding where nude pictures are printed on the inside part of the pages. Looked under different types of light, the different types of skin tones from these images seep through on the outside part of the magazine. This creates a dynamic and ever-changing visual display that mirrors the complexity of human relationships and the nuances of intimacy and human connection. All articles are from Vogue magazine’s archive.

All Faggots Drown
Graphic Design & Participatory Installation
2023

All Faggots Drown is a participatory design installation about the unacknowledged Utrecht Sodomy Trials in 1730. These trials marked the deaths of countless queer men who were used as scapegoats for the natural disasters happening at the time. Due to the homophobic believes, that they were the ones responsible for these horrific events, they were hunted down and usually drowned, as religious punishment for their sodomy. The installation consists of a 10 meter long piece of fabric informing about this event and filled with all of the names of the killed ones. The names were extracted from an 18th Century English newspaper archive and organised by month and day. Each visitor is welcome to pick a sticker with the date that a person was killed on and position it under their name as a gesture of aknowledgement and care. The title serves as a commentary on the violence experienced by these people at the time.

Mask 4 Mask
Art Direction, Graphic Design, Photography
& Workshop
2024

Mask 4 Mask is a participatory workshop around the topic of queerness. The workshop started out as interviews with four different individuals about their identity and different challenges they face off regarding it. The title of the project was inspired by the usually toxic preference of naturally masculine queer men only being attracted to, or seeking, other masculine men — “Masc 4 Masc”. Such preferences usually exclude other types of queer identites and force one to mask their actual identity expressions. Therefore, the second part of this project was bringing those four people together in a workshop where each created their own clay mask in relation to their identity and conversation they had with me and amongst each other. This whole process was documented photographically and turned into four small publications that contain the interviews, as well as close up photography of each mask. After one reads the interviews and starts unfolding each publication they are able to see the mask of each participant.

Cruel Nature
Credits Design
2024

Cruel Nature is a song by musician Thomas Hell accompanied by a video made by artist Pykel van Latum. I worked on the credits design for the project, in correlation with its visual and thematic tone. Described by Pykel: “Footage taken in the mountains near Imlil, Morocco, in 2023. The song’s title, Cruel Nature, made me reflect on the strange time just after these videos were taken — when Flo and I experienced an earthquake that took thousands of lives, both human and animal, and made the remote mountain villages, the areas that were damaged the most, even more cut off. This is a bittersweet ode to all the people and animals we’ve encountered during our stay, who I still think about a lot, and the unsung heroes that delivered aid where none could reach.

Poems By Kids
Art Direction & Graphic Design
2023

Poems By Kids is a 400 page book made out of a dataset of poetry written by children and teens from grade one to twelve. Each child receives their own dedicated page with a generated signature created from their ID number, included in the original dataset. The signatures of each child from each grade are combined on a single page that serves as a section mark for each grade. All of them are stacked on top of each other, thus creating the design for the hard cover of the book. There are three types of paper incorporated in the book starting from more transparent and smooth to thicker and grainier. This transition symbolises the growth of the children in terms of grade and age, as well as the growth in maturity in the poems.

In De Ban Van Goud
Graphic Design & Digital Media Assets
2024

In De Ban Van Goud is an exhibition about the role of gold through time and culture exhibited in the Wereldmuseum Leiden. This was a project that I assisted on during my internship with Marline Bakker at Glamcult Studio. I helped develop the spatial design for the exhibition, specifically the floor planning, as well as wall design and text desciptions in certain rooms in the museum. In addition to that I also helped with the development of the family route of the exhibition, as well as the digital assets used in the promotion of this exhibition.
